Warmth - The Hidden (or not so hidden)
Key to Productivity
It is time to realize the full potential that Warmth has in creating a happy, inspired and productive work force. Although this may seem like an obvious fact, many companies overlook the huge strategic advantages that Warmth can have in the work place. Millions of dollars are spent each year in various techniques to improve productivity but very little, if any at all, is invested in learning how to professionally create a genuine, warm ecology, which inspires long-term commitment and excellence (Christmas parties alone, wont do).
We all know how well we feel when we receive warmth from our manager or fellow worker, and how willing we then become to reciprocate and go the extra mile. Why is it, therefore, that we dont invest more in it? The answer to this question is not so simple, because first, we dont view Warmth as a commodity that requires constant attention, and secondly, although we would wish to receive and give warmth we often become detached from it, due to demands and pressures that we face every day. For warmth to be effective, it has to become integral to the work environment and therefore part of its integrity.
So the question becomes how to stay connected to natural warmth despite the harsh and demanding business environment, and furthermore, what is the role of upper management, mid management and the work force in the institution of permanent Warmth in the work environment?
We are not talking of cosmetic changes, but rather of fundamental reformation that reflects the paradigm shift from individual leadership to collective, shared responsibility, where Warmth transforms the work place into a second home and the work force to a second family- and that requires professional attention.
Strange as it may sound, a Warmth training program is necessary in order to create the ecology spoken of, where management and employees can work together towards a common goal, each accepting their Warmth responsibilities & duties.
Warmth can be likened to the mortar that holds the bricks together, without which the wall will collapse, or the oil in the car engine that makes sure that the engine runs smoothly. It is the glue that holds things together and allows the collective strengths to merge, wherein all parts support all parts, and results are always maximized.
"Finally, consider the following Thinking Coach sayings:
Warmth is the remedy that melts the harshness of conflict and backbiting
Warmth brings together the rich skills of humanity
Warmth is the catalyst of inclusion and togetherness
