Thinking strategically about Change

What is the best most effective way to think about change to get results? Here is a paradigm shift about Change: Changes are small adjustments made at the core, which lead to big results in their extensions. Changes require time and continued nourishment to strengthen and become established.

Here is a simple, practical exercise to elucidate point:

  1. Have 2 people stand shoulder-to-shoulder in a middle of a room facing the same direction- the 2 people represent one person who is making a change.
  2. Have the person on the right make a one inch turn to the right- that’s the change at the core.
  3. The 2 people then begin to walk in the direction they are pointed to – that is the change beginning to manifest in its extensions.
  4. Measure the distance between them after 5 feet and then after 10 feet- the distance between the 2 people indicates what the initial minute change in the core caused after some time.

What this exercise points to, is what happens when a small change is adhered to over a period of time. You start small and you stick to it and after a while you get measurable results. A step at a time is the best strategy of change!

People make a fundamental mistake by trying to make big changes and expect instant results- It Doesn’t Work That Way!

It is all in how you think about it, because how you think will determine if you are setting yourself to failure by having too high expectations, or you pace yourself to success.

Another important aspect to consider is that your motive is your strength!

This is called critical thinking, which is the reason why you do what you do. If you have it firmly in place it will carry you through the ups and downs of the journey of change.

Finally, realize that every change has short and long term consequences that are not immediately seen, so it is important to be aware of your natural attributes and not alter them in the name of change.

In this upcoming year The Thinking Coach wishes you success with the changes that you wish to make, either in your professional career or personal life, and hopefully this Insight may help.
